In a report prepared for the Association of American Medical Colleges a grim outlook was given concerning physician supply in the United States. Here is what was found:

Demand for physicians continues to grow faster than supply, leading to a projected shortfall of
between 46,100 and 90,400 physicians by 2025
The report can be read here. Much of the shortage will be from stronger demand of people getting on Obamacare.

I think this shortage may happen long before 2025. Has anyone tried to get in to see their Primary Care Physician recently? I have twice and gave up. It was at least a 3 week wait. I advised the appointment lady I would either get better or be dead by then. Luckily, I got better. I work in a specialty outpatient clinic and I see families all the time that are desperate to just get simple primary care answers, asking me about issues on knee pain, constipation, etc. because they can’t get in to see their PMDs. It’s already scary out there.

SD, thanks for on the ground reporting in what you are seeing. Please keep in touch with me on wait time trends you are seeing where you’re at. I have been seeing some wait time stories here and there but yours is most recent. I’m just asking for scale, are you in a major city?
