It’s not supposed to be this way. At least that’s what President Obama says on gas prices. Wait, maybe it is and we should celebrate because the President is taking credit. Confused yet?
You should be and here’s why.
Last week I saw a video of the President making some remarks concerning gas prices. In fact, he was taking credit in the drop of prices due to increased production of oil in America. The video I saw was one year old but it’s still used today by supporters as one of his economic victories as President. DailyCaller.com even wrote a piece, “Obama Takes Credit for Low Gas Prices…Again”
Gas prices dropping should be celebrated. Most economic studies point out that a one cent drop in gasoline prices adds $1 Billion back into the pocketd of consumers. So surely one can see prices dropping from $3.50/gallon to $1.70/gallon in the matter of two years adds some serious money into other areas of the economy. Price wise, without being technical, gasoline prices cannot be controlled by any President or group of people since it’s a worldwide commodity.
Now back to the President. I’m confused at him and his supporters bragging about gas prices being down. Going back in history…..they never wanted them to be down. Here’s proof via HotAir.com in a 2012 post, “Chu to Congress: We’re not interested in lowering gas prices”.
Sensing impending political fallout from the high cost of gas, President Obama last week spoke on the subject and attempted to deflect blame for the pain. He said that there is no quick fix to high gas prices and the nation cannot drill its way out of the problem…..the president claimed oil production is its highest in eight years, that increasing oil production takes too long, and that oil is not enough.
Again in 2012, while running for re-election, he said this:
“And you can bet that since it’s an election year, they’re already dusting off their three-point plans for $2 gas,” Obama said in a 2012 speech in Miami. “I’ll save you the suspense: Step one is drill, step two is drill, and step three is keep drilling. We heard the same thing in 2007, when I was running for president. We hear the same thing every year. We’ve heard the same thing for 30 years.”
“Well the American people aren’t stupid,” Obama. “You know that’s not a plan — especially since we’re already drilling. … You know there are no quick fixes to this problem, and you know we can’t just drill our way to lower gas prices.”
Will the real President Obama please stand up?
