Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett faces scrutiny after an illegal immigrant killed a Hoosier less than 12 hours after endorsing immigrants at a rally.
The rally held on Sunday, which local media reported as Hogsett stopping short of saying Indianapolis is a sanctuary city, was held by faith leaders openly promoting not working with ICE agents enforcing immigration laws.
Monday morning at 2:30 a.m., Elizabeth Vargas-Hernandez crashed into a Noblesville man on I-465 and killed him. Police arrested her for driving under the influence while intoxicated causing death and never having a driver license.
Now an update of the Marion County Jail website shows an immigration detainer is on her from Immigration Customs Enforcement….the same agency Indianapolis faith leaders and Mayor Joe Hogsett were protesting on Sunday.
The Indianapolis Mayor needs to step up to the podium, apologize to the city and family of the victim.
