Dogs are driving up homeowners insurance rates and here’s why

Americans love their dogs. The fury fuzz ball brings joy to millions of families across the country. Unfortunately, they also drive up homeowners insurance rates.

This bit of economic data via Clark.com:

Dog bites reportedly accounted for more than one-third of all homeowners insurance liability claim dollars paid out in 2015, costing more than $570 million. The average cost paid out for dog bite claims nationwide was $37,214 in 2015.

Ten years ago payouts totaled $322 Million. With payouts on the rise, someone has to make up for it and that’s the consumer.
