The term is called “Anchor Babies”. Illegal immigrants will cross the U.S. borders to have their babies on American soil. Because of a flaw within a law in the U.S. government, those babies become citizens. Since a vast majority of these illegal immigrants are extremely poor and hospitals cannot deny treatment to them just from a medical ethical standpoint, money to pay for the birth of these children come the U.S. taxpayers. This will change the demographics of the U.S. in many aspects for decades to come.
Here’s a story from DallasNews.com:
In Texas, between 60,000 to 65,000 babies achieve U.S. citizenship annually by being born in the state’s hospitals, according to a tally released by the state’s Health and Human Services Commission. Last year, such births represented almost 16 percent of the total births statewide.
Between 2001 and 2009, births to illegal immigrant women totaled 542,152 in Texas alone.
“The next 10 years will be an even more transformative decade demographically for Texas,” said Dr. Roberto Calderon, an associate history professor at the University of North Texas and a Latin American expert following the debate.
Even Snopes.com had to admit U.S. taxpayers have to pay for these births when it looked into just ONE Dallas hospital and amount of anchor baby births:
A recent patient survey indicated that 70 percent of the women who gave birth at Parkland in the first three months of 2006 were illegal immigrants.’ Crikey, that’s 11,200 anchor babies born every year just in Dallas. According to the article, the hospital spent $70.7 million delivering 15,938 babies in 2004 but managed to end up with almost $8 million dollars in surplus funding. Medicaid kicked in $34.5 million,Dallas County taxpayers kicked in $31.3 million and the feds tossed in another $9.5 million.
