Indiana hunting season opens up today. Bow hunters will be busy this
coming weekend hitting their spots they’ve groomed all year long. Here is what hunters brought in last year on deer:
Deer hunting is a popular sport in Indiana and particularly in the southern counties. Last year hunters harvested 120,073 deer in Indiana. Bow hunters claimed 34,600 deer. Gun and muzzleloaders were used on 79,000 harvested deer.
Indiana deer hunters are very generous with their meat. Here’s one program in the state:
The Department of Natural Resources says the Sportsmen’s Benevolent Fund program provided nearly 270,000 high-protein venison meals to hungry families during the 2013-2014 deer season.
