Indiana Medicaid Recipients Who Smoke May Get Charged Extra

Indiana may be making people who are on Medicaid and that smoke pay a “surcharge” fee according to state Medicaid Director Allison Taylor.

Taylor was speaking at BGD Legislative Conference when she made the remarks. The conference brings government officials in to talk with other leaders of the community on legislative issues.

Economically speaking, it’s just another tax on the poor and probably won’t do anything to cover the supposed costs of smokers have on the program. It also is another sign of how much the state is spending on Medicaid at a faster rate than anticipated.
