Food stamp cards now being used to buy clothes

Food stamps need drastically cut in America.

Until then, the program will probably end up letting recipients use the card as a down payment for a new cell phone.

This story is out of Arkansas via KATV.com:

A sign saying “We now accept EBT cards” was hanging in the window of Rainbow, a clothing store.

“Why are you able to buy clothes with an EBT card that’s supposed to be for food or cash assistance to help you get food,” Power asked.

According to DHS, EBT cards are for people receiving Transitional Employment Assistance (TEA) or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. SNAP is intended to help pay for food, and TEA is to help with job-readiness, transportation assistance, and child care assistance.

the Rainbow store in Little Rock told Channel 7 they accept EBT cards. Rusley said that’s something the USDA regulates.
